Learn to Talk About Your Art! This Is It (this week)

Folks…life has been amazingly crazy. I can’t even explain it all because you lovelies should not have to hear all the dirt about our family. Suffice it to say that some of last week was taken up dealing with a boat load of toxicity. Fortunately, that seems to have had a resolution, at least for now.

Many other (happy!) things also happened, but I won’t take time now to elaborate on them, either, as I have students to teach and I continue to pump out pottery for the upcoming shows (Taylor TX 4/22-23, Bertram TX 4/29-30).

Learn to Talk About Your Art–Article Series

I will briefly encourage you to learn to talk about your art!

Several artists were give the opportunity to talk about themselves and their art during the Gallery Opening. Most were nervous, some to the point of cringe. Most even stated that they were nervous and not used to talking in front of people.

These things are all normal for artists. We are used to working alone and sometimes shunned in our little studio spaces, feeling the approbation of those who think we (or who we think are thinking we)  could be spending our time in better ways.

But it’s a dire disservice to our art to fail to prepare to speak to others about it.

I think the first thing to do to improve in this area is to really parse out what you, yourself, think about your art. Why do you do it? What is the call it puts on you? What is its purpose? Is it only for you? If so, then why are you hoping to display it somewhere?

I will likely say more on this later, but I’m literally out of time this week. I will say that I had a lovely time at both the Spring Fling in Horseshoe Bay Texas as well as the opening for the Gallery at Salon Mystique. Welcome to all who have signed up for the Magic News since then!

Meanwhile, I leave this Vlog/Video here for you to enjoy: it’s just as short and sweet as this article.

I will post again next week on Wednesday. I’m switching publishing days for awhile to see if it fits my schedule (and the internet service’s schedule) better.

Open yourself up so you can see the music, hear the colors, touch the magic and awaken the wonder and Worship for Our Great Creator in your heart!
