I’ve always been fascinated–and somewhat frustrated–by the phenomenon of virga. Because there could be so much MORE water if it just made it to the ground!
Living in New Mexico, we saw it a lot though. Virga is when you can see that it’s raining but the rain doesn’t reach the ground. Generally it’s an indicator of a strong downdraft.
My friend sent me his awesome photo with a challenge to paint it, so of course I had to try. I’m so pleased that it turned out well! I haven’t, in the past, been very successful with clouds.
Virga Over the Pecos will be on its way to it’s home with my friend soon. Prints and other items with the image will be available in my shop, though.
