The Right Questions and A Moment of Fear

It’s been a very interesting week. First, I want to share a video I uploaded on Saturday to my YouTube Channel. Then I will share a recent painting and the story surrounding it.

The Right Questions Video

This topic is something that is very close to my heart, because my mission in life is to bring you to a place I am confident you will find peace, purpose and inspiration. I strive to invite you into the divine magic of art and music, where together we can learn to see the music, hear the colors and awaken the wonder in our hearts.

So many times a person decides to take the first steps into a new artistic pursuit, but because they don’t know anyone who has gone before, they begin with a lot of wrong assumptions and misunderstandings. They find the path rough and stressful instead of enjoyable.

This video is my attempt to help you get past that rocky beginning. Please let me know what you think. The video is about 20 minutes long.

A Moment of Fear

Generally I am excited and even impatient to publish a post when I create a new piece of art. But this time was different. I put off posting this one for a few days because I’ve heard it said that sometimes when an artist creates a work which is not consistent with previous work, they get criticized.

This piece is almost a complete departure from any previous work.

I’ve been journaling with gouache during sermons for the past few months. It’s really been challenging and exciting. Sometimes something happens that is worthy of exploring on a bigger canvas.

This is one of those. The sermon included the passage from Luke 9:57-62. Click the link to read it.

The passage speaks to the issue of commitment. As it was read aloud, I began to contemplate how I could show that trying to make less than a full commitment, a commitment with reservations, only hurts us and leaves us imprisoned.

And this is what happened:

Perhaps you can see why I felt nervous about putting it out in the social media world.

In the end, I knew I HAD to post it…failing to post it would, after all, exemplify the very thing it illustrates.

Not only did I get positive and encouraging comments. This piece sold within two hours of posting it!

I’d love to hear your comments on the video or the painting or both. And while you are commenting, why not join the mailing list? You will get notifications each time I post on the blog. That’s anywhere from once a week to once a month. I’d love to be connected with you.
